Certification of Construction Inspector's in Virginia is done by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD).
Certification of Construction Inspector's is a three step process, involving testing, attending the Code Academy, and applying to DHCD for certification. The is no legal obligation that an individual be employed by a jurisdiction to be certified as a Construction Inspector.
Certified Construction Inspector's must maintain their certification by attending all training sessions required by DHCD. Generally this involves attending special training sessions when there is a change in the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code or the model codes.
